Step into the world of conservation at Fundación Loros, a private 1,000-acre tropical dry forest reserve located just an hour from Cartagena. This sanctuary is dedicated to rehabilitating and releasing parrots and macaws rescued from illegal trafficking, giving these majestic birds a second chance at freedom.

The reserve is also a haven for diverse wildlife, including three monkey species— Red Howlers monkey, Capuchins monkey and the endemic titi monkey—as well as macaws, monkeys, toucans, sloths, and turtles. By collaborating closely with local farmers, the reserve promotes sustainable practices and supports community well-being.

What To Expect

Begin your adventure with a traditional breakfast by the lake, followed by an engaging educational talk from biologists about the rehabilitation and release of rescued parrots and macaws. You’ll help to prepare and deliver the food to these birds, connecting deeply with their care. Next, saddle up for an exciting 15-kilometer horseback ride through vibrant trails surrounded by mountains. Enjoy stunning panoramic views, spot three monkey species, including the endemic titi monkey, and encounter exotic birds, parrots, and iconic macaws. Visit local cassava, yam, and maize crops while meeting the farmers who cultivate the land. Afterward, enjoy a local snack before embarking on an exhilarating 4x4 tour of the estate. Keep your eyes open for wildlife as you explore the reserve’s hidden gems. For your safety, all vehicles are driven by trained guides, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in this unforgettable adventure. Important: Please remember that it is not permitted to feed the animals directly, or touch them. All activities take place under the supervision of our trained foundation staff, as this is a rehabilitation center, not a zoo.
